Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Night Concert 2017 at 8pm

“The Summer Night Concert in the Schönbrunn Palace Park, is an annual event which is one of the major highlights of the concert season. This year’s concert was marked by an important anniversary: 175 years ago our orchestra was founded in Vienna, the city of music, which since time immemorial has attracted and provided a home for prominent composers and musicians.

The orchestral stage for the concert was been constructed for the first time before the backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace. The view of the palace transported the audience to the world of fairy tales and myths, and musical forms and song were well–suited to evoke an atmosphere of enchantment and wonder. It was the composers of the romantic era who understood best how to transform this message into magical sounds. As a result, the program of this year’s concert was dedicated to selected compositions by Antonín Dvorák, Peter Ilyic Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov and Engelbert Humperdinck. In addition, music of Igor Stravinsky was heard, as well as John Williams, who is most well–known for his film music. These composers abducted the audience on a journey into a world beyond the rational.  We are especially pleased that soprano Renée Fleming and Maestro Christoph Eschenbach joined us for this concert.

The Vienna Philharmonic, which carries sole responsibility for the presentation of the Summer Night Concert, is pleased to present this concert as a gift to all residents of the city as well as its guests.”

Watch this event tonight on CaribVision from 8pm (ect).
